1 2 3 Person Narrative

There are four basic points of view.

1 2 3 person narrative. First person is the i we perspective. First person point of view. This is we when used to talk about a group in which i is a member. The biggest clue that a sentence is written in the first person is the use of first person pronouns.

The addressee may be singular or plural depending on how many individuals are being addressed. I is always singular. The pronouns used are he she it they them etc. Third person is the he she it they perspective.

Point of view is the view from which the story is told. And the third person perspective uses he him his and she her hers by showing the character s story. In grammatical terms first person second person and third person refer to personal pronouns. A narrator is the person who tells the story and from what point of view the story will be read.

Second person is used when referring to the addressee. They opened the door. The second person perspective uses you and your by having it narrated oppositely. First person third person limited third person omniscient and third person objective.

In fact there are only five different types of narrative point of view. In first person point of view the narrator is a character in the story dictating events from their perspective using i or we in second person the reader becomes the main character addressed as you throughout the story and being immersed in the narrative in third person point of view the narrator exists outside of the story and addresses the characters by name or as he. Unlike the omniscient narrator who knows everything about the story the third person subjective narrator is only sure about what is related to his chosen character. Each person has a different perspective a point of view and the three points of view have singular and plural forms as well as three case forms.

He she allows multiple perspectives. When we talk about ourselves our opinions and the things that happen to us we generally speak in the first person. What he can tell about the remaining characters is subjective and based on conjectures. When talking about literary or narrative point of view though there aren t nearly as many options.

He she explains one part and suggests the rest. The definition of second person is the grammatical category of forms that designates the person being addressed. They use the words. First second and third person are ways of describing points of view.

This is i when used to talk about yourself. Second person pronouns are you your and yours. They he and she etc. The first person perspective is used by i me and mine since that s focused only on the main protagonist by going into their mind.
